MEET THE STUDIO!

We’re so glad you’re here!

Studio Blume is a photography business located in Upstate South Carolina and operated by professional photographers Skylar Blume and Natalie Mann.

Our style can be described as a blend of the perfect blend of the ethereal mixed with moody tones—a marriage of shadow and light.

With Skylar bringing in the art direction, visionary execution, mastery of posing clients, and post production editing, and Natalie bringing in her business acumen, technical skill, work and educational background, our combined talents is what makes Studio Blume so successful.

As photographers and artists at Studio Blume, we are always pushing the envelope. It’s a blessing and a curse to be incredibly self-critical, as are most artists. “How can I do better, be better?” we ask ourselves everyday. The answer we are discovering is that there is no perfect shot, but all that I can do is search for the perfect shot, and that is what keeps us going.

Meaning for our dahlia logo -

“The dahlia flower symbolizes elegance, creativity, positivity, and growth. Dahlia’s also represent inner strength and embracing positive changes.”

Ever since I was a little girl, I have always loved taking photos. My first camera was a Barbie film camera, and since then my obsession with photography began. Now with money saved and juggling college life, I have now upgraded to a Canon EOS 90D! Most of my beginning ‘practice models’ have been my three dogs, Sadie, Sonny, and Scarlett. They are my heart and soul, and even troublemakers, but I wouldn’t trade them for the world.

Capturing each photo becomes a chance for me to exist in a space where I feel most at ease and completely in tune with my creative instincts. The best part of the photography business is making clients feel confident and beautiful. Experiencing the joy and satisfaction when clients see a sneak-peak of their photos and express genuine delight with the results is incredibly rewarding.

Being a photographer is also the role of a director, a dreamer, a visionary, a planner, and an excellent communicator. While I approach my work with a serious dedication, I also infuse the process with a sense of joy and fun, ensuring a balanced and enjoyable creative experience.

Creating Studio Blume with my best friend, Natalie, has been incredibly rewarding. Together, we’ve achieved significant milestones and witnessed substantial growth, reflecting not only our professional success, but also the strength of our friendship throughout the journey.

Fun Fact: I find joy tending to my garden, expressing creativity through painting, helping animals any way I can, enjoying spooky documentaries/movies with my boyfriend, and cherishing playing moments with my dogs- a delightful blend of hobbies that add richness to my life.

“As much as I take my work and art seriously, I’m a goofball—a kid at heart.”

INFJ

Before I call myself a photographer, I first and foremost call myself an artist, a storyteller, and a risk-taker. I grew up in a military family, hopping around from one state to the next nearly every year of my childhood. My only familiarities were creating art (painting, printmaking, writing, photography, etc.). Eventually I was accepted into Columbus College of Art & Design, in Columbus, OH, and then studied in Rome, Italy in the Istituto Lorenzo de’ Medici.

Italy is a country that celebrates togetherness, faith, life, and love, all of which influence my work greatly. To this day, I am always in search of the shot that captures the euphoria of love in its various forms—in its softest and most intimate moments, to its triumphant and boisterous celebration with friends and family.

I returned to the States and proudly received a B.F.A. with an emphasis in Printmaking from Clemson University, and promptly began painting murals for local businesses and selling oil paintings for my own sanity. To supplement my bills, I worked at a corporatized coffee shop, became a proud leader, did work in NYC, Nashville, LA, and then came to the conclusion that despite fighting through the exhaustion, life is too short to do meaningless work for a bunch of billionaires. So after painstakingly working dead-end jobs, Skylar and I quit, took the plunge, and pursued art full time.

Thus, Studio Blume was born, and we haven’t looked back ever since.

I live in Clemson with my two cats, Princess and Pearl, along with my four snakes, Petunia, Pluto, Poe, and Peel. My hobbies (besides art, of course) are programming video games, maintaining saltwater and freshwater aquariums, learning, reading, and eating delicious food prepared by my wonderful boyfriend. I have many talents, but being a cook is not one of them.

Fun fact: My camera is named after my grandpa Rex! (Love you, Grandpa and Grandma!) And of course, I thank them, the safety net of my parents, my boyfriend’s wonderful mom for supporting our business, and my boyfriend for his patronage and endlessly supportive feedback. xoxo

For as long as we’ve known each other, our team has always been a wonderful balance of part dreamer and part doer. When we think to the first time we met each other over a decade ago, to where we are now, it’s almost unbelievable to think how lucky we are to have such an unbreakable bond of friendship that carries over to our business partnership.

Over ten years of working together, bravely standing up for ourselves against corporations, and finally deciding to take the terrifying (but completely liberating!) leap of starting our business, we truly have found meaning and purpose. It’s hard to imagine two shy teenagers grew up eventually to finally have the courage to pursue their own dreams as well as fulfill the dreams of others.

Our tenacity to keep pushing forward, to keep improving, to deliver the best, most unforgettable experience for our clients, and all for the sake of a good photo — is what keeps our hearts beating.
